Our Philosophy

St. Ambrose Catholic Elementary School strives to develop a living, conscious, and active faith within the school community.  In a nurturing environment, students develop the religious beliefs and values needed for commitment to Christ rendered through prayer, worship, service, and interaction with the community.  In all areas of the curriculum, students are taught to respect life and to question life-threatening or unjust policies in the world in which they live.

We believe that each child is a unique creation, redeemed and loved by God.  In this context, we initiate and nurture the concept of self-worth and a positive self-image.  We encourage children to respect themselves and others so that they can meet the challenges of life and ultimately transform their world.

The faculty and staff at St. Ambrose School are committed to providing a positive learning environment.  We strive to instill a deep appreciation and desire for learning that will remain with the children for the rest of their lives.  We have high academic expectations and a well-defined school policy; we place emphasis on acquiring and developing the basic skills needed for life-long learning.

Recognizing the complex society in which we live, the diverse population of our students, and the multiple problems they face, we plan a variety of strategies to implement the curriculum.  We take a holistic approach to development, encompassing the spiritual, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of today’s child, in order to prepare the child for full participation in tomorrow’s world.

Our Mission
The mission of St. Ambrose School is to communicate the Good News of Christ and to promote an attitude of caring for one another.   As Catholic educators, it is our responsibility to foster the complete development of each child.   We maintain academic standards that challenge our diverse population, utilizing technology to prepare students to be contributing and independent citizens.  We promote the development of a positive self-image.  We encourage children to apply what they learn to their daily experiences in the inner city and beyond.  Enriched by our diversity, we promote a harmony that unifies us as children of God.
