Other Programs

Technology
Although we do have technology classes where advanced skills are taught and practiced, the most important technology “classes” are in the everyday use of the computers, Smartboards and laptops.

Each of our classrooms have 3-5 computers for student use, and the teachers encourage the application of technology in both their everyday lessons and projects.

Students leaving our eighth grade have a proficiency in using both the mechanics of computing and the programs open to them through their content areas. Web guests can visit our technology department at www.stambrosetechnology.blogsport.com

Spanish

The Spanish program At. Saint Ambrose School begins in the fourth grade.  Students in the fourth and fifth grade have Spanish class once a wweek, and the middle school students have classes three times \a week.

This course will develop communication skills and cross-cultural understanding.  the students will increase their listening, reading writing and oral skills in Spanish.  They will work in small groups on a variety of activities and will prepare oral presentations using the vocabulary and grammatical patterns they learn.  Although this class tends to be fun and exciting, for most students, it is a course that requires a lot of work and study.  At the same time, however, it is a very pleasant way for students to learn about the Spanish culture and about the twenty-one Spanish speaking countries where
Spanish is the official language.

Library

The purposes of the Saint Ambrose Schoool library are to foster a love of books and reading, to develop students' research skills and to broadenstudents' knowledge of their world.  Resources include over 3400 fiction, non-fiction and reference books, biographies and magazines.  Computers are avqailable for students to do research.  The video resources include a vast variety of subjects to augment classroom lessons and to entertain.  the DVD resources are increasing.  This year alone, nearly 600 books have been added to our collections.

Students in grades Pre K3-grade 5 have a weekly library period; middle school studens check out books on a weekly basis.
