SCHOOL HOURS:
7:50am to 2:00pm
The school doors are opened for students at 7:30 AM. Students should be in school by 7:40am. The LATE BELL rings at 7:50am. Students not in their homeroom at 7:50 AM are considered tardy.
Students not picked up by 2:15 will be sent to the After School Program. Parents are charged the daily per child rate for this program.
Early Dismissal (half day) is at 12:00 noon.
OFFICE HOURS:
7:30am to 3:30pm when school is in session. On days of early dismissal the Office may close early.
Summer office hours: 9:00am to 1:00pm. During the summer (June 30 – August 15) the hours vary. They will be posted on the front door of the school and on the answering machine. E-mail and Voice mail is checked daily.
Busing is available to students residing in the City of Bridgeport who live more than one mile from school. See the school secretary for a bus request.

The middle school teachers are: Miss Kimberly Scofield – Grade 5; Miss Jennifer Kosa – Grade 6; Mrs. Colleen Schule - Grade 7; Miss Angelina Cardoso – Grade 8.
Religion in grades six through eight continue to study prayer, the Sacraments, the church more in depth. The sixth grade focus is on the beginning of the Church. The focus of seventh grade religion is on the structure of the Church and in eighth grade religion church history is the focus.
The balanced literacy program continues in grade 5 through 8. Students read and discuss trade books. The program includes independent reading and work, small group reading and work, whole class activities, shared readings, and teacher read-alouds. Skills such as comprehension, cause and effect, main idea, etc. are practiced through mini lessons, group and independent work. Grammar is taught through mini-lessons and practiced through writing assignments. The writing process is used as well as teacher, self and peer editing. There are units on poetry, biographies, folk lore, etc. included in the curriculum. Literature is studied using an anthology and trade books. Students learn the elements of literature.
In Math students continue to practice multiplying and dividing larger numbers and learning about fractions and decimals. As they continue to use concepts already learned they also learn more in depth about those concepts. We use the 4 square process to help students understand and solve word problems. Students learn how to solve expressions and equations using the order of operations which increase in difficulty from grade to grade. Geometry includes finding perimeter, volume and area with and without variables. They also use Aleks, a web based program that provides differentiation. The students are assessed within the program and then work on the skills/concepts as needed based on the assessment.
The Science program focus is on earth, life and physical science each year. The Weatherbug Station is an integral part of the program. Student “meteorologists provide a weather report each day. Miss Smith is a member of the Science committee and trained in the Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum. Each eighth grader completes a study of bridges by constructing a bridge and presenting it to their classmates and parents. Projects and research based inquiries are used on all grade levels.
In Social Studies we continue studying our nation in fifth grade. Students complete a project on one of the fifty states. The social studies program focus in sixth grade is on ancient civilizations. Several projects help the students learn more about these ancient civilizations. A study of the history of the United States begins in 7th grade and continues through 8th grade. The seventh grade program begins with colonization and continues through the Civil War. The eighth grade program begins with the Reconstruction Era and continues to the present.
Other activities include weekly Art, Music, Library, Information Technology, Physical Education and Spanish.
