St. Peter School was established in 1950. It is located in the West End of Bridgeport in the heart of the city. It quickly grew from four classrooms in 1950 to eight classrooms in 1953. A kindergarten was added in the early seventies at the request of parishioners. When the school opened it was staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph and the student body reflected the Irish background of the neighborhood.
The school closed in 1986 and was reopened in 1991, when all the Catholic elementary schools were regionalized. Today the student body still reflects the ethnic makeup of the neighborhood. The students are predominately Hispanic and Black. We remain a kindergarten through eighth grade school. Our enrollment is currently 180.
The principal, Ms. Suzanna Zello and the dedicated faculty both religious and lay work hard to create a family environment built on our motto – Enter to Learn About Jesus, Leave to Serve Jesus. We strive to fulfill our mission of providing an excellent academic education grounded in faith, morals, and values.
St. Peter School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges.
